Spring always brings a sense of renewal, and this season at Baybala, that fresh energy is woven into every piece. Our Spring Collection is filled with soft, wearable fabrics, timeless prints, and silhouettes designed for real life—pieces that move effortlessly from playdates to special occasions and everything in between.
To give you a behind-the-scenes look, we sat down with founder Katie Gaston and technical designer Julianne, who shared how this collection came together—from design inspiration to the thoughtful details that make each piece truly special.
The Story Behind Spring:
Katie, what inspired this season’s prints and styles?
When approaching our Spring Collection, I wanted the prints to feel almost like solids—versatile, wearable, and easy to mix and match. You’ll see one-color florals like Verdant Blooms and Floral Blues, with Whimsical Meadow bringing a bit more movement and vibrancy to kids’ styles.
I’ve always been drawn to vintage textiles, especially the balance of their patterns and colorways. For this collection, I leaned into soft greens and classic blues—colors I personally love and find endlessly wearable.
What styles are you most excited about this season?
The Savannah Skirt is hands down my favorite. It’s easy, comfortable, and so versatile—wear it with a tank, a cropped tee, or even over a swimsuit. I already know I’ll be wearing it nonstop.
Customer Favorites & Thoughtful Updates:
Are there any fan-favorite styles returning this season?
Absolutely! Floral Blues is a print we keep coming back to—it’s classic and never feels dated. This season, we’ve put it into some of our best-selling silhouettes, like the Daisy Dress, the Harper Top, and our new Savannah Skirt.
The Daisy Dress is also back in new prints. To me, it’s the quintessential Baybala kids’ dress—easy enough for little ones to pull on themselves, with smocking that’s sweet but never fussy.
And of course, we have the Harper Top—the top you want in every color, every season. The elastic detailing at the neck and sleeves makes it super comfortable, and we always add a trim or print that makes it feel fresh.
From Sketch to Finished Piece:
Julianne, as Baybala’s technical designer, what’s your role in bringing Katie’s vision to life?
I like to say I’m the engineer of clothing! Once we finalize a design, I create a tech pack—which is basically a recipe for the factory, detailing everything from fabric choices to measurements.
We then go through multiple fit samples to make sure each piece feels just right. A lot of problem-solving happens in this phase—like when we realized buttons on little girls’ dresses were pulling too much at the bottom, so we made the placket functional at the top but faux toward the bottom. That way, they keep the look but can move freely.
Fabrics & Fit:
This collection feels so soft and wearable—how do you choose fabrics?
We love cotton voile because it’s lightweight yet structured, making it easy to wear all day. This season, we also introduced a cotton-viscose blend, which has a silky, drapey feel—it’s absolutely gorgeous on the Iris Dress (coming soon.)
And of course, our knits—I’m obsessed with the Jen Cardigan. It holds its shape beautifully, even after a million washes!
How does customer feedback shape what you create?
Katie: We love hearing from our customers. If a tweak can make a style better, we want to know! We also listen to real-life feedback from our photoshoots—our team, the kids, and the moms wearing these clothes in action. They help us fine-tune the details to make sure these pieces feel great not just on a hanger, but in everyday life.
At the heart of this collection is a simple goal: to create beautiful, thoughtful pieces that fit seamlessly into your life. We want these clothes to be lived in, reached for, and loved—the ones that make sense for busy days, special moments, and everything in between.
We can’t wait to see how you wear them. 💛
